Dublin High Track and Field Excels at NCS Meet of Champions

Dublin High School once again played host to the prestigious North Coast Section Track and Field Meet of Champions on May 23-24, and several Gael student-athletes were among the top performers.

Emma San upset the top seed and came away as the champion of the 100m Hurdles with a time of 14.59. San also was a medalist in the Long Jump, finishing in 6th place with a mark of 17’08.

Gabriel Calandar and Laprell Kent also posted 1st place finishes in the 100m Unified Division, while Akhil Kakollu came in 1st place in both the 100m and 200m Ambulatory races.

The Gaels also had really strong showing in the 110m Hurdles, as Nathaniel Maddox came in 2nd and Aaron Adamos finished in 3rd to both earn qualifications into this weekend’s California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) State Track Meet. Maddox will also be competing at CIF in the Triple Jump after a 3rd place finish at NCS.

Dublin also had a really strong showing in the Girls 4x400m Relay, finishing in 2nd place. The team of Josephine Bayer, Kayci Phillips, Ria Inamdar, and Naeemah Grant-Gurganious will advance to the CIF State Meet. The other qualifer from Dublin who earned the right to compete this weekend is Miranda Howeth after coming in 3rd place in the Pole Vault.

The Gaels’ overall team finish at the NCS MOC Meet was 4th place for the Boys’ team and 7th place for the Girls’ team. Despite the 7th place finish, the East Bay Athletic League champs was only 12 points away from an NCS title, and may have possibly come away with a 1st place finish if one of the team’s most valuable contributors in multiple events (Aaliyah Hasni) not gotten hurt at the NCS Tri-Valley Meet. Fortunately, it does appear that Hasni will be recovered in time to compete in this weekend’s CIF State Meet as part of the 4×400 relay card with Mya Hargraves, Madison Hsu, and Yarelli Magana.

Dublin’s Track and Field team has the distinction of once again being the last sport on campus still competing. The final athletic event of the 2024-2025 school year for Gael student-athletes is taking place at Buchanan High School in Clovis May 30-31.
