The Dublin High Varsity Girls Volleyball team celebrated its 10 seniors last Thursday, October 17th playing in their final home match, and then proceeded to defeat Granada 3-1 in front of an enthusiastic crowd at the Sports Complex.
Dublin’s victory over the Matadors put them on the precipice of a North Coast Section playoff berth, but a narrow 3-2 loss at Dougherty Valley in the team’s regular season finale left them just shy of the overall record needed to qualify. It was a thrilling match with playoff atmosphere which saw Dublin drop the first set, win the second set 29-27, split sets three and four, and fall just short in the 5th and decisive set 15-13.
In addition to the memorable experience of playing in what amounted to a playoff match to conclude its season, there were other highlights as well worth noting. Chief among them include a win at Amador Valley, one of the top teams in the North Coast Section. The Dons were a 20-win team and appeared in the NCS Semifinals last season so it was definitely a proud accomplishment for the program and its biggest win since 2021. Dublin also had an impressive showing in the Livermore Tournament, going undefeated in Pool Play before advancing to the Semifinals.
Despite graduating so many seniors, the Varsity Girls Volleyball squad still returns 9 players along with talent coming from the JV and Freshmen teams. Now that Coach Kramer will have a full offseason to prepare, the future is bright for the program.
