Coming off its best season in program history in which it won the East Bay Athletic League Valley Division title, this year’s Varsity Girls Tennis team took things to another level this year by going undefeated in EBAL and winning its 2nd consecutive EBAL championship.
The Gaels came into their final regular season match 12-0, and had already wrapped up the Valley Division championship. Monte Vista also came in with a mark of 12-0 and had won the Mountain Division crown, so Tuesday’s battle on Senior Day at Dublin High was for true supremacy.
Powered by the strength of a sweep with its singles’ lineup, the Gaels defeated the Mustangs 6-3 to cap an unprecedented regular season. All six players (Maya Peav, Mady Peav, Olivia Halim, Kashvi Ravi, Niyati Ravi, and Alyssa Ma) each won in straight sets, helping to continue a trend that allowed them to defeat teams from both their own Valley Division and the traditionally stronger Mountain Division.
The undefeated regular season is the first time a Dublin High team has finished with an unblemished record in EBAL play since the Varsity Boys Basketball team accomplished the feat back in 2018. This is also the first undefeated season in the history of the Girls Tennis program, and in fact it is believed that few programs on campus have ever achieved that milestone.
The EBAL title also ensures that Dublin has earned a berth into the North Coast Section (NCS) Team Tennis Tournament which begins on November 12th. In fact, it is very likely that the Gaels will have a top four seed and will host through the Quarterfinals and has an excellent opportunity to qualify for the NCS Semifinals/Finals at James Logan on November 16th.
In addition to the NCS Team Tennis tournament, the Gaels are also poised to have individual players qualify for the NCS Singles and Doubles’ tournament as well. Top finishers in next weekend’s EBAL Tournament will advance to the NCS event taking place November 18-19 at Chabot College. The EBAL Tournament begins on Thursday, November 7th at the Club at Livermore (10:00 a.m.) and will continue through November 11th with all times and locations posted on the Athletics home page.
