The achievements keep piling up for the Dublin High School Varsity Girls Tennis team, as a record number of players qualified for the upcoming North Coast Section Singles/Doubles Championships which are taking place November 18-19 at Chabot College in Hayward.
Dublin’s #1 Singles player Maya Peav won the East Bay Athletic League and was an automatic qualifier for the NCS Tournament. Peav was the #2 seed at the EBAL Tournament, but defeated the top seed from San Ramon Valley in dramatic fashion to win the league title as she fought off three match points to prevail 4-6, 7-5, (11-9). It was a grueling affair which lasted nearly three hours and saw both Peav and her opponent fighting off severe muscle cramps.
It proved to be a Gaels sweep at EBAL as Dublin also took home the Doubles crown after Olivia Halim and Kashvi Ravi won another 3-set battle against San Ramon Valley’s top pair. Halim and Ravi came from behind to prevail 4-6, 6-4, (10-5) in a match that was tight throughout. Dublin’s #2 Singles player Madyson Peav was able to nab one of the few At-Large bids in the NCS Division 1 Tournament after completing the season with a 14-1 overall record which included a win over the #4 seed from Monte Vista at the EBAL Tournament.
In the NCS Team Tennis Tournament, the Gaels earned the #4 seed and defeated #13 California in their 1st Round match 6-1. Dublin’s #2-4 Singles players (Madyson Peav, Olivia Halim, and Kashvi Ravi) won their matches handily, but things got much tighter after the Gaels dropped their #1 doubles match to still remain one win away from clinching as the afternoon turned late with all three remaining matches close. However, Dublin’s #2 pair Diya Prassana and Morgan Lemmo managed to win their tiebreaker to clinch the match, while Khloe Tan and Mae Truong won at #3 Doubles and Maya Peav pulled away at #1 Singles for the final margin of victory.
After Thursday’s NCS Semifinal against #5 seed American was rained out, it will take place TODAY (Friday, November 15th) at 2:00 at Dublin High School. The 5th seeded Eagles defeated Dougherty Valley to advance to today’s Quarterfinal match. If the Gaels win, they will face #1 seed Miramonte in the NCS Semifinals at James Logan High School in Union City on Saturday, November 16th at 9:00 a.m.
