The Dublin High Varsity Football team won its regular season finale 21-0 at Dougherty Valley, winning the Shelale for the 5th consecutive year while punching its ticket to the North Coast Section playoffs.
It was a closer game than the score would indicate through much of the contest, as the teams were scoreless at halftime. The Gaels had two prime scoring chances in the first half but came away empty-handed. However, Dublin was moving the ball well throughout the half and it was only a matter of time before the Gaels would get on the board.
In the second half the Gaels continued to move the ball well, scoring both of their touchdowns on runs by Andre Armendariz. Ethan Kennedy also returned an interception for a touchdown which helped seal the victory. Dublin’s defense was outstanding throughout, and this was the second shutout this season.
Dublin is now the #8 seed in the NCS Division 3 playoffs and will travel to face defending CIF State champions and this year’s #1 seed Acalanes on Friday, November 15th at 7:00. If the Gaels win, they will travel to face Heritage or James Logan next weekend.
In other action last weekend, the Junior Varsity team ended on a high note with a 20-7 win at Dougherty Valley, while the Freshmen team defeated San Leandro to finish the season with an overall record of 7-3.
