The historic season for the Dublin High Varsity Girls Lacrosse team on Tuesday night, but not before battling Monte Vista all the way to the end in its North Coast Section 1st Round game. Tuesday’s contest was the first ever postseason game hosted by a Boys or Girls Lacrosse team at Dublin High School.
Dublin trailed Monte Vista 6-1 midway through the 2nd quarter before a late rally pulled the Gaels within just 1 goal as they went into the half down 6-5. The teams traded goals in the 3rd quarter as Dublin entered the 4th quarter down 7-6, before ultimately falling to the Mustangs 9-7. The narrow loss was in stark contrast to an early season encounter which saw Dublin lose to Monte Vista 12-5, demonstrating the team’s dramatic improvement during the team’s 13-game winning streak.
The Gaels finished the season with a record of 14-5 overall, which was a record in terms of the total number of victories that surpassed the previous record of 9 wins set in 2008. It was also the first winning record posted by the program since its inception, along with its first ever league title. In addition, the undefeated record (8-0) in EBAL was the first time a Dublin team finished league without a loss since the Boys Volleyball team accomplished the feat during the COVID-shortened 2021 season.
In other action this week, the Softball team exploded for 20 runs in a win over Santa Clara on Monday. The Gaels had scored 8 runs in two of its previous three contests (Monte Vista and Granada) and scored 7 more runs in a loss to California on Senior Day on Tuesday. In total, the Gaels hot bats have accounted for 43 runs in their past 5 games, a clip of more than 8 runs a game to close out the season.
