The initial season of Girls Beach Volleyball came to a very successful conclusion this week, as Dublin High School played host to the first ever East Bay Athletic League (EBAL) Tournament at Fallon Sports Park on Tuesday.
Sixteen pairs with representation from every school in EBAL participated, and Dublin’s Sophia Ignacio and Brooke Felbinger advanced to the Semifinals and came within a couple of points of playing in the Finals. The Gaels finished 8-2 overall on the season, officially giving the program the highest winning percentage of any team in school history, as no other program can match the squad’s stellar .800 winning percentage!
Now that the first season is officially in the books, talks are already underway on ways to expand the sport in the upcoming year. This includes looking at additional matches along with a more robust team and individual tournament to help grow interest in the sport.
In other exciting news this week, Swimmer Ben Ohrr officially qualified for the California Interscholastic Federation’s (CIF) Swim Meet in the 100M Backstroke. Ohrr finished 7th in the entire North Coast Section at last weekend’s Meet in Concord, and will participate in the prestigious CIF State Championships the weekend of May 16-17 at Clovis West High School.
Meanwhile, Dublin golfer Aditya Das finished in 7th place out of 144 entries in the NCS Division 2 Tournament at Foxtail North on Monday in Rohnert Park. Based on his performance, Das advanced to the NCS Division 1 Tournament this upcoming Monday, May 19t at the Rancho Solano Golf Course in Fairfield.
Looking ahead to this weekend, Dublin’s Boys and Girls Track and Field teams will be competing in the NCS Tri-Valley Meet on Saturday, May 17th at Clayton Valley High School. The Girls are coming off of a weekend in which they won the EBAL Championship while the Boys finished in 2nd place just behind De La Salle. Both teams are expected to compete for potential NCS Tri-Valley titles at the Regional Meet featuring schools from EBAL, the Diablo Athletic League (DAL), and the Bay Valley Athletic League (BVAL).
In addition, EBAL champions Angelina Wu and Sahasra Gajula will be joined by teammates Kevin Sun and Isabella Meng at the NCS Division 1 Badminton Championships at Newark Memorial High School on Saturday, May 17th. And while no teams are allowed to compete on Sundays, the Baseball team will be anxiously checking the NCS website for the posting of playoff brackets. After finishing 17-7 in the regular season, the Gaels are awaiting their seeding in the Division 1 tournament which begins on May 20th.
