Return of Indoor Sports Possible This Spring

Players and coaches of indoor sports received exciting news on March 4th regarding a recent class action settlement that potentially paves the way for their seasons to take place this spring. Subsequently, the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) released new Youth Sports Guidance on March 5th. This is certainly an encouraging development for those looking to play as a pathway has been identified, but several steps remain before indoor sports can actually begin their seasons.

The CIF/North Coast Section is currently reviewing the new guidance and will be reaching out to the CDPH for clarification regarding several areas. Until they receive clarification from the CDPH, they are not prepared to comment or advise our schools on the provisions of this updated guidance. Here is the link to the updated guidance for your review. https://www.cdph.ca.gov/Programs/CID/DCDC/Pages/COVID-19/outdoor-indoor-recreational-sports.aspx. . Following guidance from the NCS, the schools within the East Bay Athletic League will meet to discuss how to proceed. In addition, it is still to be determined if or how the Alameda County Public Health Department releases additional restrictions.

In the meantime, Alameda County is rapidly approaching the Red Tier, which means that teams can begin indoor workouts again within set cohorts. The latest update will be issues on March 9th.

Finally, with the prospect of indoor seasons becoming more realistic, all student-athletes interested in joining the Basketball, Wrestling, Badminton, Volleyball, or Stunt teams are encouraged to reach out to those respective coaches and to go to www.athleticclearance.com in order to get cleared to try out. Contact information for all coaches can be found in the Athletic Department tab in the Directory.
