This past week was an incredibly successful one for the Varsity Girls Tennis team, as Dublin celebrated both individual and team success.
As a team, the Gaels posted two wins over difficult competition starting with an 8-1 victory at home against California on October 12th. Dublin then went on the road to avenge a loss earlier this season against Carondelet, winning in dramatic fashion 5-4 on the road against the Cougars. The team match was decided by the #3 Doubles team of Danica Lee and Jayani Jayakanthan as they won a 3rd set tiebreaker 10-6. Nirupama Suravarjjala also won a nail-biter at #3 singles prevailing 6-4 in the 3rd set. Jessica Holbea and Soha Ahmad were Dublin’s other two winners in singles, while the #2 doubles team of Shreya Sanadi and Ryka Dhawan prevailed at #2 doubles.
With the victory, Dublin is now 8-5 overall and in position for a potential North Coast Section berth. They travel to face San Ramon Valley on October 19th and return home to face an undefeated Amador Valley squad on October 21st.
In terms of individual accomplishments, senior standout Jessica Holbea officially signed on to join the Tennis team at William Jessup University. Holbea won the East Bay Athletic League Singles title as a freshmen and was a finalist her sophomore year. There was not an official league championship last season due to COVID, but Holbea is likely to contend for another East Bay Athletic League Singles title at the tournament November 4-5 at Crow Canyon Country Club.
