The Dublin High School Boys and Girls Cross Country teams both turned in historic performances at the North Coast Section Championships this past Saturday, November 20, 2021.
The Boys team became the first team in North Coast Section history to ever record a perfect score of 15 points, finishing individually 1-2-3-4-5. By winning a 5th consecutive NCS championship, the Gaels not only extend a school record in any sport for consecutive (and total) NCS titles, but it also set a record in the history of Division I. All of the previous marks for consecutive NCS first place finishes came in lower divisions, but the remarkable feat has never been accomplished at the highest level (Division I).
Our Girls Team became the first in Dublin High School history to qualify for the California Interscholastic Federation State Championships by taking 2nd in the Division 1 race. Although individual runners from our Girls team have qualified for NCS in the past, this is the first time the entire team has advanced.
The average time for the Boys team was 15:30 over the 3-mile course, led by Daniel Trampe who finished with a time of 15:13. Sharvin Manjrekar came in 2nd place with a time of 15:26, and he was followed closely behind by Matthew Morgon, Joshua Turpin, and Cole Turpin to round out the scoring positions. Dublin’s time was the fastest of any boys team from any division racing last Saturday, and the combination of the incredibly fast overall time with a sweep of the top five positions makes this year’s team arguably one of the best to ever come from the North Coast Section.
On the Girls side, Dublin finished with a team average of 20:06, edging out Berkeley by two seconds to claim a spot in the CIF State Meet. Junior Medha Gowda recovered from an injury which kept her out of the East Bay Athletic League meet to finish 7th overall with a time of 19:31. Freshman Melia Prenton was the team’s next highest finisher by coming in 11th place, followed by Ameri Miyazawa (15th) and Yashvi Shrivastava (16th). Maia Marquez recovered from her own injury to reclaim the final scoring position for the Gaels, finishing in 19th place to help the team secure 2nd place overall.
