Despite missing several of its starters to club commitments during the first month of the high school season, the Varsity Girls Soccer team is off to a blistering start.
The Gaels have begun the year with an overall record of 5-0-1 after two convincing wins last week. Dublin went on the road to defeat Pittsburg 6-0 on December 7th before returning home to defeat Ranch Cotate 3-0 on December 9th behind goals from Grace Toney, Yusra Rabi, and Emma San.
The two shutout victories last week bring the squad’s total for the season to five in its six matches, allowing just one goal thus far in a 4-1 win over Mission San Jose. Offensively, the Gaels have been led by Isabella Alvarez with 5 goals. Ashley Annis and San have posted 4 goals, while Kaitlyn Matta, Addie Metz, and Rabi have each contributed 3 goals this season. San leads the team in assists with 4, followed by Annis and Rabi with 3 apiece.
Before their match on Thursday, the program took the time to honor one of its best players from the past. Judy Mefferd, a graduate from the DHS Class of 1985 who went on to earn All-American honors during her time at Sonoma State, returned to her hometown as the Head Varsity Coach of Ranch Cotate and was recognized in front of her family and friends who still reside in the area.
Dublin now is set to embark upon the East Bay Athletic League portion of their schedule. The Gaels will be hosting Amador Valley on Tuesday, December 14th at 6:00 p.m. to start EBAL play, followed by another home match on Thursday, December 16th against Foothill (6:00). The Junior Varsity team enters league play at 2-1-1 overall and will be hosting both the Dons and Falcons at 4:00 preceding the Var
