On the final day before Winter Break, Dublin High School’s teams finished the first semester strong with wins in multiple sports in an action-packed day.
One unexpected twist on Wednesday was the fact that our Varsity Boys Basketball team ended up with a home game. The team was originally scheduled to play at Kennedy High School in Fremont, but due to a potential gas leak the game was moved to Dublin High out of an abundance of caution. The Gaels defeated the Titans 77-58 behind 20 points from Mekhi Thomas, who led Dublin in scoring in his season debut. Courtney Anderson Jr. added 19 points in helping the team build a 25-point advantage en route to the 19-point win. Donovan Cooks had 7 assists and Carmelo Clarke-Tarver was the team leader on the boards. The Freshmen and Junior Varsity games between the Gaels and Titans will be rescheduled.
The Dublin High Varsity Girls Basketball team improved its record to 7-1 overall after posting a 57-53 win at Notre Dame of San Jose. Junior Center Rachel Grier also made some major news this week as a Bay Area News Group Female Athlete of the Week nominee.
In soccer, the Boys program came away from its triple-header at Las Lomas without a loss. The Freshmen team improved its mark to 6-1-1 on the season with its win over the Knights, while the Junior Varsity team improving its mark to 4-3-1 with its victory. Dublin’s Varsity came away with a 0-0 tie against a highly regarded Las Lomas squad, and is now 4-2-2 on the season. The Varsity Girls broke their 3-match winless streak by posting a 3-0 victory at West High (Tracy).
