The Dublin High School Varsity Boys Basketball team bounced back from Wednesday’s loss at De La Salle in a big way on Friday night by defeating Amador Valley 84-40. This was Dublin’s first home game in nearly a month since a win over Kennedy-Fremont on December 22nd.
Dublin started quickly by racing out to a 21-4 lead at the end of the first quarter, but the Dons scored the last 9 points of the second quarter to close within 36-25 at the break. However, any momentum Amador Valley had was short-lived, as Dublin outscored the Dons 26-6 in the third quarter to put the game out of reach.
Donovan Cooks led the way for Dublin with 21 points, while C.J. Anderson added 16 points and T.J. Costello chipped in 14 points. Friday night also saw the return of Thomas Labat, who saw action after being down with a knee injury for the past 5 weeks.
It was also a big night for Dublin defensively, whose pressure defense compiled double figures in steals and forced numerous other turnovers. In addition, the Gaels also had several blocked shots and drew several charging fouls.
With the victory, Dublin is now 10-4 overall and 3-1 in the East Bay Athletic League. The Gaels will be back in action on Tuesday, January 25th when they host California.
In Junior Varsity action, the Gaels defeated the Dons 62-51 with Coach Anne Ha at the helm. The team is now 13-3 overall and remains undefeated in league play. Friday night’s Freshmen game was canceled.
