The Dublin High Varsity Girls Volleyball team pulled off a thrilling comeback to defeat California 3-2 in an East Bay Athletic League match at home on Thursday night.
Dublin trailed 10-5 and 13-10 in the decisive 5th set before rattling off 5 straight points culminating in a match-sealing kill by Brielle Rodrigues to win it 15-13. The Gaels were also trailing 10-4 in the 4th set after being down in sets 2-1 before coming from behind to win it to force the final set.
Several players made key contributions to the win for Dublin, including Rachel Grier with 23 kills and Rodrigues with 20 kills. Rodrigues also had 7 aces while Grier added 5 blocks. Lila Siale set the table for the offense with 49 assists, and Lele Brown finished with 15 kills, including several key ones at the end of the 4th set that proved to be pivotal in deciding the match.
With the victory, Dublin improves to 10-3 overall and 4-3 in league play. The Gaels will travel to face Livermore on October 4th before returning home to face Foothill on Thursday, October 6th at 6:30.
In other highlights, the Frosh team remained undefeated after winning both of its matches this week. The Gaels are now 8-0 on the season and have not dropped a single set. Dublin’s JV improved to 12-1 overall after winning the Irvington Tournament on September 24th and defeating the Grizzlies 2-0 on Thursday.
