The winter sports season is off to a blistering start at Dublin High School, as all of its programs at multiple levels have celebrated success in the opening weeks.
After suffering opening day losses in college showcase events against stiff competition, both the Varsity Boys and Girls Basketball teams have rattled off 5 consecutive victories. The Boys team’s success has been bolstered by an offense that scored 93 or more points in three of those victories, while the Girls’ team has been a juggernaut on defense by not allowing more than 42 points in any game during their win streak.
In last Saturday’s action, the Boys won the Washington Tournament Championship after beating Amador Valley 71-55 in the title game, and the Girls’ team defeated Castro Valley 68-42 in its inaugural Winter Invitational. The Girls’ team followed that victory up with a 44-33 home win over Liberty on Tuesday night.
Similarly, the Boys and Girls Soccer teams overcame slow starts to their respective seasons to post win streaks of their own. The Boys’ team success has been keyed by their defense, as they have held opponents scoreless in 4 of their 5 matches, including a 3-0 shutout win over Campolindo on Saturday in the Winter Soccer Classic and a 1-0 nonleague home victory over Deer Valley on Wednesday. Conversely, offense has carried the Girls’ soccer team, as the Gaels have scored 11 goals in the past two matches to defeat San Leandro and Heritage.
Dublin’s Wrestling team also built off of the success from the inaugural Gaels Showdown that they hosted for Girls Wrestlers with several top finishes in tournament action on December 9th.
In addition to the Varsity teams, Dublin’s Junior Varsity and Freshmen teams have also enjoyed success. The JV Boys and Girls Soccer teams are both undefeated to start the season, the JV Boys Basketball team has already notched a tournament title, and both the Boys Soccer and Freshmen teams have only dropped one contest thus far.
Gaels fans can catch all of the home action live-streamed on the Dublin Athletics’ YouTube channel Dublin Gaels Live, and can also follow the team on the ScoreVision fan app. The next event taking place on campus is the Don Nelson Classic, a Varsity Boys Basketball tournament taking place from December 14-16. The opening game for the Gaels is on Thursday, December 14th at 6:30 p.m. against Heritage.
