It was a noteworthy night in more ways than one, as the 3rd-seeded Dublin Varsity Boys Basketball team won its North Coast Section opener in convincing fashion over James Logan 80-37 while Jalen Stokes surpassed 1,000 total points for his career as a Gael.
The achievement is noteworthy in and of itself, but considering that he is still only a Junior is even more impressive. Stokes led all scorers on Tuesday night with 23 points while Damase Coly added 11 points to lead a balanced scoring attach which saw every healthy player on the roster record get into the scoring column. Senior Point Guard Isaiah Wong paced the offense with 7 assists, but the offensive play of the night belonged to Jaiden Jones who threw down a monster dunk in the second quarter.
Dublin led comfortably throughout the contest, as the Gaels raced out to a 21-8 lead after the 1st quarter and proceeded to build up a 44-16 lead at the break. The Gaels held the Colts to just 8 points for the 3rd quarter and were never threatened in the second half.
With the victory, Dublin advances to the NCS Quarterfinals where it will host Campolindo on Friday, February 16th at 7:00. If Dublin wins, it will play the winner of the Liberty-Berkeley matchup in next week’s NCS Semifinals where a spot to the CIF State Tournament will be on the line.
