Athletics Roundup: Cross Country Makes Podium, Wins for Girls Volleyball and Golf

At the De La Salle Nike Invitational, the Dublin Gaels Cross Country Team continued their award winning opening to their season.  The Varsity Boys Team made the podium for the second week in a row, taking second place in a highly competitive field which featured state ranked teams Campolindo, Davis Senior, Granada and Jesuit. They were led by individual medalists seniors Sharvin Manjrekar (15th – 15:57), Joshua Turpin (22nd – 16:04) and Cole Turpin (23rd – 16:07) and had scoring contributions from classmates Matthew Morgon (16:16), Daniel Trampe (16:21), and Adrian Tran (17:25), and junior Nathan Manesh (16:38).

In the Varsity Girls Race, junior Medha Gowda medaled for the second week in a row, taking 23rd in a time of 19:17.  The Junior Varsity Boys Team also cracked the podium for the second week in a row and were again led by winner senior Vincent Giannini, who won his second JV race in a row with a time of 16:37 and is making a strong claim to crack the varsity top 7.  The team also featured individual medalists senior Sharva Santhakumar (5th – 17:21), junior Advait Jagannathan (20th – 18:16) and sophomore Rahul Dutta (9th – 17:26).  Other scoring members included seniors Alex Martinez (18:19) and Conan Wang (18:55) and sophomore Kaden Wong (18:21).  Freshman Tanish Zutshi (21:33) enjoyed a 32 second 3-mile personal record improvement from just last week.  In the Junior Varsity Girls Race, sophomore Marjan Naik (27:48) had the greatest 3-mile improvement, crushing her previous record by over 50 seconds!

In other action this week, Jessie Burch shot an even par to lead Dublin to a 222-257 victory over Livermore in Varsity Girls Golf. The Dublin High Varsity Girls Volleyball team also came away with a 3-1 win on the road at Dougherty Valley on Tuesday, while the Junior Varsity team was also victorious posting a 2-0 win.
