Dublin Football Senior Night Action

Dublin High School was able to welcome back more spectators as well as its Marching Band and Color Guard for its season home football finale on April 3rd. In total, nearly 40 seniors were recognized in pre-game and halftime ceremonies on an evening that was more reminiscent of pre-COVID seasons past in terms of overall pageantry (although still scaled back due to existing health restrictions).

The Gaels fought hard and were within a touchdown late into the 3rd quarter, but injuries plagued them in the second half as the short-handed squad fell to Livermore 35-14.

Dublin started out strong by taking its opening drive and marching downfield for a touchdown when Anthony Armendariz connected with T.J. Costello to give the Gaels an early 7-0 advantage. The Gaels proceeded to stop Livermore on their next possession, but the momentum quickly shifted as the Cowboys returned a fumble for a touchdown to tie the game at 7-7 by the end of the first quarter.

It appeared that the Gaels would only trail by a touchdown (14-7) heading into halftime, but following a pass interference penalty with 0:08 remaining in the second quarter Livermore was in possession to score on a 26-yard touchdown pass on the final play of the first half to extend their lead to 21-7.

Dublin climbed back into the game in the 3rd quarter when Armendariz scored on a 57-yard touchdown run to trim their deficit to 21-14, but Livermore responded almost immediately for a touchdown of its own to go back on top 28-14 before adding a touchdown in the game’s final minutes for the final margin of victory.

The Gaels will be back in action on Saturday, April 10th at Amador Valley before finishing its season with the Battle for the Shelale on April 17th at Dougherty Valley.
