Dublin Headed for Big Showdown in Football At Home Against California – GET TICKETS!

Coming fresh off of a 37-14 victory last Friday over perennial powerhouse Liberty High School of Brentwood, the Dublin High School Varsity Football team faces its biggest test of the season as it prepares to host the 7th ranked team in the entire Bay Area – California High School of San Ramon. Dublin finished the first half of the season with a record of 4-1 overall, while the Grizzlies stand undefeated at 4-0 overall.

The Varsity game kicks off at 7:00 p.m. with the Junior Varsity game starting at 4:30. Admission is free with a DHS Digital Sports pass and/or an ASB sticker. Bay Area News Group Athlete of the Week Anthony Armendariz has powered the Gaels offense at quarterback this season by completing 36-59 for 770 yards passing and 9 TDS. Armendariz’s favorite target has been tight end T.J. Costello, who has 15 receptions for 377 yards and 6 touchdowns. Brandon Burns has also been an outside threat with 12 receptions for 222 yards and 4 touchdowns, including a pivotal kickoff return for a touchdown that helped seal Dublin’s 37-14 victory over Liberty last week. Jayden Petrus has fueled the Gaels attack on the ground with 77 carries for 546 yards for a whopping average of 7 yards per carry. Petrus also has 112 yards receiving and has scored 5 touchdowns this season.

Defensively, linebacker KJ Sweeney has led the way with 57 tackles (including 5.5 for loss) for a stingy unit that has only given up an average of 8.4 points per game, while Costello leads the team in tackles for loss with 6. Burns has been dominant in the secondary with 3 interceptions. Petrus and Gary Cabida have 34 tackles apiece, and Cabida also has an interception returned for a touchdown. Three-year starter Jake Cooney has anchored the defensive line with 31 tackles. Cooney has also been a force up front offensively, helping to lead an outstanding line along with Josh Lijesen, Ben Flokowski, Adam Osmani, and Zach Miller.

The Gaels defensive unit will be tested by a prolific California offense that is averaging 52 points and 407 yards per game while winning by an average of 38.5 points per game. The Grizzlies offensive unit is led by quarterback Teddy Booras, who has thrown for 769 yards and 14 touchdowns. Jake Calcagno has accounted for 10 of those touchdowns while hauling in 30 receptions.
