There are three major home events at the conclusion of Homecoming Week that will have major implications for our Athletics’ programs quests for North Coast Section playoff berths…..and in the case of football an East Bay Athletic League Valley Division title.

The action begins on Thursday, October 21st at 4:00 p.m. when the Tennis team hosts Amador Valley. Dublin comes into the match against the undefeated Dons with a record of 9-5 overall following their impressive 6-3 at San Ramon Valley on Tuesday. In most sports, a winning percentage of .642 would make a team a virtual lock for the postseason. However, tennis only has 2 Divisions and many of the slots in Division I go automatically to league champions, making at-large qualification difficult. A Dublin victory or competitive match against a team as strong as Amador Valley will go a long way towards helping Dublin qualify.

The action continues on campus at 6:00 p.m. for our Volleyball team’s season and home finale against Dougherty Valley. Dublin will be honoring its 10 seniors just before the start of what promises to be a thrilling match. In addition to the usual excitement surrounding Senior Night and an EBAL finale against their rivals, the match also has significant playoff implications.

Despite it’s 8-10 overall record, given the Gaels incredible strength of schedule playing in the most highly regarded league for volleyball within the NCS (EBAL), a victory over the Wildcats may help seal a playoff berth for Dublin. In previous years the NCS required records of .500 or above to apply, but they waived the requirement this season due to COVID and the related difficulties in scheduling matches. This change puts Dublin in position to make the tournament, and considering Dublin’s previous wins against really strong teams like San Ramon Valley (along with pushing #1 Foothill to 5 sets), the Gaels could prove to be a difficult out if they are in the playoffs.

Homecoming Week for DHS Athletics concludes with the most highly anticipated matchup of all…..the Football showdown against Foothill. Both teams come into the game 5-2 overall and undefeated in the EBAL Valley Division. A victory by either team will go a long way towards claiming a league title. For Dublin, they have not won an EBAL Football title in 43 years and have not won a league title of any kind since 1999. Dublin comes into the game ranked #19 in the Bay Area following a strong performance at Granada in a 39-10 victory.  Foothill is the 20th ranked team in the region and is coming off of a 24-0 win at home against Livermore. Kickoff for the Football game is at 7:00. Other events taking place that day include the annual Homecoming parade down Village Parkway at 4:00 along with the acknowledgement of the Homecoming royalty court, announcement of the Senior Queen, and the winner of the week-long class competition during halftime.

Tickets for Thursday’s Volleyball match or Friday’s football game can be purchased on the DHS Athletics GoFan page.
