Athletics Recap: Dublin Shatters Records with Distance Fiesta; Season-Opening Victories, and Other Highlights

Dublin High School hosted one of the largest track and field events in the country on Saturday, March 19th, as  over 3,000 student-athletes from throughout California participated in the Dublin Distance Fiesta at Gaels Stadium. Despite the cold and at times rainy conditions, the energy-level and attendance was extremely high as most participants posted their Personal Records (PR) due to the fast and competitive nature of each heat.

The highest finish for the Gaels was the one by Manogya Yara, who came in 12th in the 800m with a time of 1:58:38 followed by Adrian Tran in 33rd place at 2:01;60. In the 3200m heats, Daniel Trampe finished 24th out of all runners at 9:24:37, Sharvin Manjrekar came in 28th, while Matthew Morgon rounded out Gaels in the top 50 in 39th place. On the Girls side, Lauren Kang was the top performer coming in 43rd place in the 800m at 2:31:63. Maia Marquez, Medha Gowda, and Ameri Miyazawa also had a lot of success finishing at or near the top of their heats in the 3200m.

Other highlights of the week included season-opening victories by the Badminton and Stunt Cheer teams. The Badminton team defeated Quarry Lane 16-1 while the Stunt Cheer squad posted a 9-7 win over Carondelet. The Swim team remained unbeaten after a narrow win over Granada (172-160), while Baseball finished the week on a winning note by defeating Mountain House 9-0 to stay above .500 overall at 5-3-1.
Looking ahead to this week, the Softball team takes its undefeated mark against a highly regarded Granada team in their East Bay Athletic League opener on Tuesday, March 22nd (4:00). The Baseball team is also home against the Matadors on Wednesday (4:00). Other teams with home contests during week include Boys Tennis and Boys Golf (March 21 and 22), Boys Lacrosse (March 22), and Boys Volleyball (March 24). The busy week of events ends on Friday, March 25th with a very full slate of home action, with Badminton taking on Dougherty Valley in the Auxiliary Gym (4:00), a home Swim Meet at The Wave against Foothill (4:00) and Girls Lacrosse taking on Livermore at 7:00.
