Dominating Performance for Dublin at EBAL Track and Field Meet – Boys Win Title and Girls Finish 2nd!

IMG 1319

In what was top-to-bottom one of their most dominating performances in school history at the 2022 EBAL Track and Field Championships, the Varsity Boys won a league title, the Varsity Girls came in 2nd place, the Frosh-Soph Girls finished in 1st place, and the Frosh-Soph Boys ended up in 4th place.

The results posted at Saturday’s Meet in Gaels Stadium by the Varsity Boys were particularly impressive, as the 140 points they scored doubled the total of their nearest competitor (2nd place De La Salle – 70). It was a performance reminiscent of when the Boys Cross Country team swept all of the scoring positions at the North Coast Section Championships in November, with the Gaels jumping out early and dominating throughout. Dublin also accounted for nearly 30% of the total points in a highly competitive 10-team field, making the accomplishment even more noteworthy from a statistical standpoint.

The Varsity Girls totaled 83 points trailing only Monte Vista who finished with 118. Dublin was within 8 points trailing just 89-81 heading into the final two events before the Mustangs pulled away late. In the Frosh-Soph Girls event, Dublin edged out San Ramon Valley by a score of 89-85, while the Frosh Boys event saw the top four teams within 12 points of each other.

One of the biggest highlights of the event for Dublin came in the Girls Pole Vault, as Jathiyah Muhammed set an EBAL Meet record by jumping 13’8. Brandon Burns was the top individual performer on the Boys side, finishing in 1st place in both the 100m and 200m while participating in the 4×400 (with Alexander Franco, Takehiro Masubhi, and Manogya Yara) and 4×100 Relays (Sebastian Guinther, Anish Kasahm, and Masubuichi) which also finished in first place.

In addition to their 1st place finish as part of the Relay teams, Kasam also took 1st place in the 300m Hurdles while Franco finished in 1st in the 400m. Other 1st place finishers at the EBAL Meet included Khaliq Muhammed in the Boys Pole Vault, Aiza Sarwar in the Girls Triple Jump, Tristan Oliver and Adam Moore in the 100m Boys Unified, Moore and Ethan Perez in the Boys Long Jump Unified, and  Rachel Okwudiafor Johnson and Nyla Williams in the 100m Girls Unified.

Dublin also was able to qualify 88 student-athletes into this weekend’s NCS Tri-Valley Meet, eclipsing the previous school record of 62 advancing from the league event. The Tri-Valley Meet will be held on Saturday, May 14th at Freedom High School against top performers from the Bay Valley Athletic League (BVAL) and our former Diablo Athletic League (DAL). The top performers at the Tri-Valley Meet will earn spots at the NCS Meet of Champions, which is being held at Dublin High School on the weekend of May 20-21. If our student-athletes continue to perform at the level they did on Saturday, it is anticipated that several of them will qualify for the CIF State Meet.
