FUTURE LOOKS BRIGHT FOR BOYS' GOLF

One of the few sports that was able to complete half of its regular season was the Boys’ Varsity Golf team. The Gaels went 4-5 in the highly competitive EBAL before the season was suspended, but the team was very competitive in all of its matches. However, the highlight of the year for the team was finishing in 2nd place in the Gambetta Invitational at the Lone Tree Golf Course in Antioch.

The golf program only graduated three seniors this year – Jake Banich, Sameer Paila, and Joey Wanzenried. All three shared the honor of being captains this season and were on the team for four years and their presence will be missed. Looking ahead to next season, the future is particularly bright in that there will be 15 returners. In addition to several Varsity returners from the Varsity squad, the Gaels had an outstanding Junior Varsity team which captured first place at the Cal High Invitational at The Bridges Golf Course in San Ramon.

Considering that golf is one of the few athletic activities which has been allowed to fully resume as of May 4th (following social distancing protocols), the team is excited about the opportunity to get out on the links and begin training in earnest for the upcoming season.
