Game # 2 – Mission San Jose – Dublin Wins 18-4

game2a

A quick turnaround from game 1 as the Gaels were back at it the next morning. This time, taking on Mission San Jose High School. The Gaels bats were alive and wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as they plated runs in each of the first 3 innings. Nick Costello led off the game with what looked like a definite home run into the right field corner only to be knocked down by the wonderful “Dublin Wind” and resulted in a double. The Gaels followed with singles from seniors Ethan Liao, Koby Seely, and Alex Gaela. After scoring 4 runs in the first inning, the Gaels continued to put the pressure on by adding 6 more runs in the 2nd, and 3 more in the 3rd. At this point the game was in hand with senior pitcher Scott Grier on the mound. Grier, looking to be one of the staff Aces, worked through some jams and showed great poise throughout his 4 innings pitched while surrendering 2 hits, 1 earned run, 3 walks, and 5 strikeouts. Arguably, the most difficult task for Grier was the amount of time between innings. While watching the Gaels hit for roughly 30 minutes every inning, Grier did a really nice job staying engaged and ready for his turn to go compete.

The Gaels stat lines showed some big performances from a lot of guys; Alex Gaela 2 for 3, 3 runs scored, 1 RBI; Gabriel Chamberlain 2 for 2, 3 RBI, 3 walks; Christian Ah Toogn 2 for 3, 2 runs scored, 1 RBI; Ethan Liao 2 for 4, 2 runs scored, 2 RBI; Michael Cool 2 walks, 2 runs scored; Nick Costello 2 for 5, 1 run scored, 4 RBI; Koby Seely 2 for 2, 3 runs scored, 2 RBI, 1 walk; Eric Morales 3 walks, 2 runs scored, 1 RBI; Elijah Lee 1 for 2, 1 run scored, 2 RBI. A total of 18 runs on 15 hits for the day!

Finishing the game on the mound for the Gaels was junior right handed pitcher JJ Burgess. Burgess entered the game in the 4th inning with the bases loaded, only 1 out, and promptly worked out of the jam with the runner caught attempting to steal home on a wild pitch and a strikeout. Burgess finished the game throwing 2.2 innings, 1 hit, 0 runs, 1 walk, and 3 strikeouts.

Player Of The Game – Gabriel Chamberlain (2 for 2, 3 RBI, 3 walks, got on base 5 times)
