State Titles and Great Performances for the Gaels at CIF Track and Field Meet

The Dublin High School Track and Field team had a strong showing at the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) State Track and Field Meet at Buchanan High School in Clovis to close out its historic season. Multiple student-athletes won 1st place in their events while others ended up on the medal stand and/or shattering their personal records against the state’s top competition at the prestigious CIF Meet.

Dublin High sophomore Jathiyah Muhammad cleared 13’9 to claim 1st place in the Girls Pole Vault, while Rachel Okwudiafor-Johnson and Nyla Williams paired to win the Girls 100m Unified Division with a combined time of 27.36. Adam Moore and Tristan Oliver ran their fastest times at 23.32 to take 2nd place in the Boys 100m Unified race.

The other medalists from Dublin High were in the 4×400 team relay, where the effort by Alexander Franco on the backstretch was one of the highlights of the entire Meet. Trailing in 9th place entering the final leg, Franco had an amazing performance pulling to move up to spots before literally diving across the finish line to jump into 6th place by 0.07 seconds to help his Relay team earn a medal. Joining Franco on the podium from the Relay team were Brandon Burns, Manogya Yara, and Anish Kasam.

Kasam also advanced into the Finals for the Boys 110m Hurdles, finishing in 8th place at the CIF Meet with a mark of 14.31. Freshman Pole Vaulter Khaliq Muhammad rounded out the list of Gaels who finished in the Top 10 with a jump of 14’7 and a 10th place finish.

Dublin High had several other student-athletes finish the season in the Top 20 in their respective events. Aiza Sarwar was edged out of an appearance in the Finals of the Girls Triple Jump by less than ¼ of an inch, but still finished 13th in the state. Daniel Trampe improved his personal record in the 3200m race by over three seconds in the final race of his prolific high school career, finishing in 17th place at 9:10.91. Leila Champion finished 20th in the 100m at 12.30.

In total, Dublin High had more athletes competing at this year’s CIF State Meet than at any time in the program’s history. It was a fantastic way to end such a remarkable season. Despite losing many of its top performers from a talented Senior Class of 2022, there is a lot of returning talent as well with the team looking to build off of its unprecedented success to achieve even greater heights in 2023 and beyond.
