The Dublin High Varsity Boys Soccer team won its season opener by knocking off Granada 2-1 at Gaels Stadium on Wednesday, April 28th. The teams were tied 1-1 at the half before a goal in the 57th minute gave the Gaels the final margin of victory. Granada had several opportunities late but the Gaels defense held to preserve the win. In the Varsity Girls season opener, the Gaels and Matadors battled to a 0-0 tie.

The Girls will have their home opener next Wednesday, May 5th at 7;30 p.m. against Amador Valley while the Boys will be back in action at home on Wednesday, May 12th at 7:30 p.m. against Livermore. Spectators can come to the game without restrictions provided that they wear masks and socially distance and both matches will be live-streamed on GaelsTV.

Speaking of GaelsTV, all home contests taking place in either our Sports Complex or Stadium will be live-streamed for the remainder of the season (and beyond) at www.gaelstv.com. That includes all boys and girls events at all levels in either venue. Last week was the first full week in which all home events were broadcast, and everything went off without any complications, and the Dublin High School Athletics Department believes this will be able to keep students, families, and fans closer to the action than ever. More news to follow on the ScoreVision fan app, which is hoped to be fully operational by the end of May.

Finally, while our soccer programs were getting their seasons underway, two other teams which wrapped up their Spring 2021 campaign were the Boys and Girls tennis teams. Leading players in both programs participated in the Tri-Valley Tennis Tournament (hosted by San Ramon Valley and Amador Valley). The tournament served as an unofficial opportunity for all East Bay Athletic League teams to gather their top singles and doubles players. Jessica Holbea of Dublin advanced to the finals in singles before dropping a 10-point tiebreaker in the 3rd set to decide the match. Badminton also had their season opener on April 29th, taking on Dougherty Valley in an exhibition in the Auxiliary Gym.

Looking ahead to the upcoming week, the Boys’ Varsity Basketball and Wrestling teams officially start their year on Friday, May 7th, and the Stunt team will launch their 2021 season on May 8th.
