The Spring athletic season is well underway at Dublin High School, with all of its teams enjoying success in the opening month of action. Although its early, several teams remain unbeaten or have winning records.

One program in particular worthy of recognition is the Swim program. The Swim team has not lost a meet since 2019, going undefeated in the pandemic shortened seasons of 2020 and 2021. Dublin defeated Pittsburg in its first nonleague meet, and then beat California in its East Bay Athletic League opener 158-97.

Another unbeaten program in the opening month of the season is Softball. Under the tutelage of new Varsity Head Coach George Gumataotao Jr., Dublin defeated Arroyo 5-4 at home in his debut, and proceeded to beat Kennedy-Fremont 3-1 on the road in their next contest. The win over the Dons featured a walk-off hit by London Abrew to knock home Sydney Costello from 3rd base.

Speaking of walk-off victories, the Baseball team also celebrated one of its own on Wednesday in an 8-7 win over San Leandro. Trailing 7-1 as it entered the bottom of the 5th, the Gaels offense exploded for 6 runs to tie things up before Carston Pearson’s single to left scored the winning run. The Gaels are 3-1-1 overall on the season.

The Boys Volleyball team has also enjoyed success thus far this season. With new Varsity Head Coach David Small at the helm, Dublin swept both Livermore and Monte Vista 3-0 in its first two matches before falling to a College Park squad with three Division I prospects by a score of 3-1 on Friday. Despite the loss, the Gaels are expected to contend for an EBAL title with a big match coming up this Thursday, March 10th at home against De La Salle (6:00).

In addition to Thursday’s volleyball match, other highlights of home action this include the Track and Field team as it hosts the EBAL Center Meet all day on Saturday, March 12th. The Gaels have looked impressive in the early going, securing victories in dual meets against Skyline and Livermore while posting several strong performances in the Don Gabor Invitational at Amador Valley this past weekend.

Other teams who have posted victories thus far include the Boys Tennis team and the Boys and Girls Lacrosse teams. In tennis, Dublin won its EBAL opener 9-0 at Livermore on February 24th before dropping their home opener to Monte Vista 8-1 that was closer than the score appeared with 6 matches going into the third set. After dropping their opener to College Park, the Boys Lacrosse team bounced back to defeat Moreau Catholic 12-1 on March 1st. The Girls Lacrosse team also bounced back after opening losses to Dougherty Valley and Monte Vista with an 18-4 home win over Notre Dame-San Jose on Saturday.

In Boys Golf, Dublin shot a 398 to finish 8th out of 26 teams in a strong field competing in the Cowboy Classic at Wente. Aditya Das was a 5th place medalist with a 1 under 71.

The only sports that haven’t had any contests as of yet are Badminton and Stunt Cheer. Badminton is poised to compete for an EBAL title this year, while Stunt has doubled the number of girls on its squad and is poised to be much more competitive this year as well.
