Schedule Adjustments Caused By Heat Wave

The Dublin High School Athletics Department has dramatically modified its schedule of contests and practices this week in response to the latest heat wave that is gripping the state.

Sports which have postponed all contests this week include Girls Golf, Girls Tennis, Girls Water Polo, and Boys Water Polo. Announcements on when these events will be rescheduled are forthcoming. In the sports of Girls Volleyball and Football, locations and start times have been altered to create a safer playing environment for student-athletes.

The Girls Volleyball triple header that was originally scheduled to take place at Amador Valley High School on Thursday, September 8th has been moved to a new location – Las Positas College. Neither Amador Valley nor Dublin has air conditioning but Las Positas College does have air conditioning and has graciously made accommodations for the match. Start date (September 8th) and times remain unchanged (4:30 – Frosh, 5:30 – JV, 6:30 – Varsity). In other action on Thursday, the Frosh Football game at Monte Vista originally scheduled to kickoff at 5:30 has been pushed back to 7:00.

Friday’s Home Football Season Opener against Newark Memorial has also pushed back its start times. The JV contest is now slated to begin at 5:15 p.m. with the Varsity start time now at 7;30 p.m. (or 30 minutes following the conclusion of the JV game).

Considering that temperatures are expected to drop into the mid-80’s by Saturday combined with the fact that the Cross Country meet in Martinez is planning to begin early (8:30 a.m.), it is anticipated to take place as scheduled.

In addition to all of the changes to scheduled contests, practices have also been altered throughout the week to address safety concerns. Girls Golf and Tennis have canceled all activities while Cross Country practices for the entire week have been moved to 6:00 a.m. The Football program has also moved practices to either 6:00 a.m. or 7;00 p.m., and Girls Volleyball, Girls Water Polo, Boys Water Polo, and Cheer have either canceled, shortened, and/or changed their practice schedule due to concerns over the heat. Other sports out of season have also suspended and/or dramatically altered training as well.

For questions regarding practice schedules and adjustments for individual programs, please contact the Varsity Head Coach directly.
