After trailing for most of the second half and staring at a 53-41 deficit with under 4:00 remaining and still down 55-46 wit 2:48 to go, the Varsity Boys Basketball stormed back in the final minutes to post a dramatic 62-60 win over Monte Vista in the opening round of the East Bay Athletic League Tournament.

Dublin had cut the deficit to 1 (60-59) with 0:19 left and Monte Vista in possession when Jalen Stokes forced a turnover and led the Gaels in transition before Adam Moore was fouled with 12.7 seconds left. The senior proceeded to score his only 2 points of the night, calmly sinking 2 free throws in the clutch to give the Gaels the lead for good.

C.J. Anderson led Dublin with 22 points, Donovan Cooks added 15 points, and T.J. Costello contributed 8 assists to power the Gaels on offense. With the victory, Dublin improves to 16-4 overall on the season and advances to the EBAL Semifinals on Thursday, February 10th at 7:00 at Granada. In their only matchup this season, Cooks hit a buzzer beater on the road to lift the Gaels over the Matadors.

The Boys game against Granada will be part of a rare Boys and Girls Varsity Doubleheader. Despite losing their contest at Monte Vista in the opening round of the EBAL Tournament, the Girls still have a good chance of making the NCS playoffs. They will face off against California in an EBAL Tournament Consolation matchup at 5:00 that will have NCS postseason implications.

Admission for the doubleheader is $8 for adults and $5 for students, EBAL passes, Booster Digital passes, and ASB stickers will not be accepted, and fans are encouraged to get their tickets ahead of time. For those purchasing tickets, the Dublin High School GoFan page is here. Both games will also be live-streamed on GaelsTV.

In addition to basketball action, Thursday night will also be Senior Night for our Varsity Girls Soccer team. Recognition of the players will take place immediately following the JV game at 5:30, and the match against Dougherty Valley begins at 6:00. Despite Tuesday’s narrow loss to the EBAL’s 1st place team (Monte Vista), the Girls are still in excellent position to make the postseason with an overall record of 12-5-3. Wins in their final two contests could cement their North Coast Section berth and enhance their seeding.

Another team in excellent position to make NCS is the Varsity Boys Soccer team following their 3-1 win at Monte Vista on Tuesday. The Gaels jumped out to an early 1-0 advantage at Monte Vista on Tuesday before the Mustangs tied the game at 1-1. Dublin proceeded to score 2 goals in the final 10 minutes to claim the win and remain in 3rd place in EBAL ahead of 4th place Monte Vista. The Gaels are now 7-2-3 in EBAL and are looking to keep the Stone Leaf Trophy if they can beat Dougherty Valley on the road on Thursday (6:00) in their regular season finale.
