Athletics Roundup: Boys Basketball Advances in DNC, Girls Basketball and Boys Soccer Sweep

The Dublin High School Varsity Boys Basketball team won their first round tournament contest in its Don Nelson Classic by defeating Fairfield 90-67. Dublin trailed 11-6 midway through the first quarter before going on a 12-0 run in a span of less than a minute and never looked back. Freshmen Jalen Stokes and junior Donovan Cooks led the way with 18 points apiece, as five players scored in double figures to pace a balanced offensive attack.

Dublin will be back in action TONIGHT in the Sports Complex at 8:00 p.m. against Placer of Auburn in the Semi-Finals of the DNC. Placer defeated Castro Valley in their 1st round contest 72-54. In the other semi-final contest of the DNC, California will be taking on Elk Grove at 6:30. The winner of the Dublin-Placer game will face the winner of Cal-Elk Grove for the DNC Championship on Saturday, December 18th at 7:00.

This week saw more success from our Varsity Girls Basketball team as they went on the road on back-to-back nights to post victories. Dublin was once again powered by strong defensive efforts. They traveled to Chabot College and held Hayward to a mere 29 points in a 13-point victory on December 15th, followed by a Thursday matinee at Liberty where they held the Lions to just 35 points and a hard-fought 2-point win that was sealed in the game’s final seconds. Dublin is now 6-1 overall on the season.

In the opening week of the East Bay Athletic League’s soccer season, the Varsity Boys squad went on the road to post impressive 2-0 results over both Amador Valley and Foothill. The Boys are now 4-1-1 overall and undefeated at 2-0 in EBAL. Dublin’s Varsity Girls team continued a remarkable stretch of holding their opponents scoreless in their EBAL opener against Amador Valley, posting their 6th shutout in 7 matches before dropping a 2-0 decision to Foothill. The Girls are now 5-1-2 overall this season and will be back in action at home on Monday, December 20th at 6:00 p.m. against San Leandro.
